Place Description: Alberto Racanati is a genre-bending musician originally from Bari, Italy, now based in Kansas City. His musical journey began at age 11 when he played his first notes on the trumpet, which in time took him to study at the Piccinni Conservatory (Bari, IT), the Moniuszko Academy (Gdańsk, PL), Western Illinois University (Macomb, IL), and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He can be seen performing as a freelancer in various genres on international stages. With his solo project Alber, he has released a self-titled album (2020), Journey (2021), and Lento (2024), creating an idiom at the crossroads between beat culture, acid jazz, and electronica. In May 2024, Alberto premiered Born At Sea, a multimedia show, as part of the ProdoLAB series at the Charlotte Street Foundation. Born at Sea centers around life near water from different perspectives, and features footage from Alberto’s hometown in Southern Italy, Bisceglie.

Works by internationally acclaimed choreographers, such as David Parsons, Dwight Rhoden, Donald McKayle and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, as well as classics by some of the 20th century’s greatest masters, such as Jose Limon, Hanya Holm and Doris Humphrey, are presented by the Company in each of its seasons. Place Description: Storytelling and music have been said to be a way of communication and an ancient way of teaching lessons in life. Dianne Moran is an award-winning folklorist and naturalist, who captivated audiences with her living history performances and live animal programs for over 30 years. Dianne and Pat Frank started ‘Buffalo Gals’ in 2001, their first venture with blending storytelling and music. Pat researched historical songs from the era, intrigued by what she had found she went on to compose her original music and lyrics. Since then, Pat and Dianne have performed in over 25 different venues. Pat and Dianne have been blending stories and music in performances of Mary Surratt, Sacagawea, Olive Oatman, and Calamity Jane. Pat and Dianne presented: ‘An Evening of Storytelling’ at the Bryan Haynes Gallery, on March 10, 2018. Woven Voices also performed ‘The Real Calamity Jane’ on February 9, 2019, at the Gallery. Calamity Jane was also presented in Defiance, MO as part of the ‘American Classics’ on July 26, 2019.

Violet Vonder Haar is a songwriter, artist, activist, teacher and healer from mid-Missouri. She has been using her music as a tool for healing, education, consciousness awakening, and social justice since the age of 9. She is the founder of the all female rock orchestra, Jane Doe Revue, which has helped to raise over $30,000 for women’s healthcare and various organizations in Missouri. Through her work with JDR and her band, Violet and the Undercurrents, she has helped to elevate women’s voices, empowering them to stand stronger within their truest selves. Violet has been a music educator for over 10 years, and uses her teaching as a way to heal and awaken the power within each of her students. In 2019 and 2020 she was nominated for the Missourian Progress in the Arts award, and in 2017, was the recipient of the Sarah Dwyer Special Appreciation Award by Women in the Arts at National Women’s Music Festival.
