Based in the historic jazz-town of Kansas City, the group is comprised of diverse yet close-knit group of dancers and musicians with extensive national and international performing experience. Marimba Sol de Chiapas marimba band has been sharing the magical music of the Mexican Marimba with audiences of all ages in a variety of local, national, and international venues for more than 30 years. Sol is committed to the authentic performance practice and spirit of the marimba heard throughout Mesoamerica, including regional folkloric and popular music from Mexico, Guatemala, and other Latin American traditions. Musical offerings include concert performances and festival appearances, and Sol’s mesmerizing “Passport to Fiesta!: A Festival of Traditional Mexican Music and Dance” is a collaborative celebration of the captivating world of Mexican folkloric music and dance. Dedicated to community as well as art, Sol is proud to offer bilingual (Spanish/English) arts education programming, master classes, lecture/workshops, and residencies, and Sol is School Touring Qualified under the auspices of Kansas City Young Audiences (see separate listing).

Kansas City Ballet offers exceptional quality and a wide variety of repertory from renowned classics to exciting contemporary ballets. A professional non-profit dance company based in Kansas City, MO, KCCD presents high-quality dance performances in Kansas City and across the Midwest region. The company creates new work through the Artistic Director’s innovation and collaboration, and is committed to the continued experimentation of movement. In the 2020 season, KC Contemporary Dance strives to make the performing arts accessible to all through outreach and educational programs. KC Contemporary Dance is led by Artistic Director Leigh Murray and Associate Director Katie Metzger, and features 12-14 dancers from across the country. Grupo Atlántico is an ensemble of folk dancers whose purpose is to share the rich tri-ethnic heritage (African, Indian and Spanish roots) of the Caribbean and coastal regions of Colombia, South America. Select from solo presentations, group performances or educational workshops. All these programs include examples of different music, rhythms and percussive instruments. The symbolism of costumes, dance steps and body movements are explained in cultural and ceremonial contexts, with the use of live music, posters, slides, and videotapes. These joyous, earthy dance traditions of Latin America offer exciting glimpses of authentic Colombian Carnival, Native American customs, African and Spanish artistic influences in the New World.

City in Motion Dance Theater has been part of Kansas City’s cultural fabric since 1985 comprising of a professional company, a school and a producer of dance. Their mission is to foster the development of high-quality contemporary dance programming and expand the dance audience in Kansas City and surrounding areas. City in Motion will bring a balanced combination of high quality technique and artistically driven choreography striving to ensure that dance concerts demonstrate a wide range of themes from comedies to abstract commentaries on social, political, and human reflections. The movement varies from high energy physicality to soft fluid dynamics that suspend, release and travel across the stage in smooth spatial patterns. The tour will consist of new works and repertoire pieces from a group of professionally trained dancers. City in Motion is available for outreach, formal performance settings, charities and can also offer workshops in creative movement, modern, improvisation and ballet for teens and adults.
Samba Bom is a Midwest-based music and dance ensemble that plays authentic Brazilian music at schools, night clubs, wineries, festivals, and private events.
The group plays a unique mix of Brazilian popular music styles, including: Samba, Bossa Nova, Brazilian Jazz, Olodum, Forro, Chorinho, among others the Batucada is an exciting, all-percussive jam session that brings any audience to its feet to dance along with the group – just like Carnaval festivities in Rio de Janeiro.
We also can provide workshops and residencies in Brazilian percussion, dance and/or Brazilian culture. Additional musicians and Brazilian dancers with authentic costumes can be added to the performances to transform your event with a taste of tropical Brazil.
For live music shows: Preferably a stage and a PA sound system. Upon request, the group can provide the sound system.
For Brazilian percussion workshops: A room that will allow loud drums.
For Brazilian dance workshops: Preferably a room with a dance floor.
Beyond the Circle dancers is a cultural exchange through Native American song and dance based out of Springfield MO. They represent the Navajo, Ottawa, Ojibwe, Zuni and Apache tribes. They have performed and powwowed all over the United States sharing their heritage and culture through traditional song and dance.
